Drake - Over
Drakes song "Its Over" one of the artist first music videos as he was rising up the charts lyrically was about his struggle between his old and new life. Before and after fame.
Although this was a Hip-Hop/Rap music video the artist drake managed to challenge the iconic values of the hegemonic norms for this genres music videos. These iconic values that display the genre of the music is usual the showing of lavish, and half naked women. Instead the artist Drake uses one white room.. His lyrics stay to the genre however his video just portrays him a full white outfit with moving over him. This brings a feeling of nostalgic. It paints a picture that were entering his past.
The video also shows Drake is torn between wholesome beauty and a seductive dancer. This could be used to show that life is moving so fast, even he cant keep up. The first part of the song is showing his old life. He requested the use of visuals that were emotion evoking. At the end of the song Drake must choose between two different women one representing his old life a wholesome beautiful girl and the other a more dangerous beautiful girl moving provocatively in the background representing his new life. Drake also in the video moves to other scenes where he is acting emotional with different backgrounds .
The use of editing and fades becomes apparent through the colorful montages symbolizing confusion during the transition between the two lives. The video then escalates from beginning to end where he shows more emotion through out showing his involvement and commitment to his new life.
THe video uses shots centered on drake and giving him his USP which is his diversity in his music.
